How to choose the right job abroad

Published: 2 November 2026

The best job abroad is not always the one with the highest pay in the advert. It is the one you can do well, in a place you can live in, on terms you understand.

Start from what you can already do

Employers in warehouses, factories, food production, construction and hotels look for people who can start working safely from the first week. Experience in a similar role, even informal, makes your application stronger and your first month easier.

Compare the pay properly

  • Is the pay per hour or per month, and is it before or after tax?
  • How many hours a week are planned, and are there night or weekend shifts?
  • Are housing and transport paid by you, deducted from pay or provided?
  • When is the first salary paid?

Net monthly pay minus housing and food is the number to compare between offers.

Look at the place, not only the country

A factory in a small town and a warehouse near a capital city are very different lives. Check how far the workplace is from housing, how you get there for an early shift and what living costs are in that area.

Check the language

Many store and customer-facing roles ask for the local language. Production and warehouse roles often accept basic English. If the listing does not say, ask before you apply.

Choose a route you can complete

Each country has its own work permit route, timeline and documents. A role in a country where your passport qualifies and the timeline fits your plans is better than a higher-paid role you cannot reach. Browse current vacancies or compare destinations.
