Poland is one of the most common destinations for workers from outside the EU. The first weeks go more smoothly if you know what to arrange and in what order.
Before you travel
- Confirm your address for the first nights and how you get there from the airport
- Bring copies of your contract, work permit and visa
- Have some money for the first month until your first salary
- Check whether your employer helps with housing
In the first weeks
- Register your stay at the address where you live, if your situation requires it
- Get a PESEL number when you need one for work, health care or a bank
- Open a bank account so your salary can be paid
- Get a local SIM card; most services verify you by phone
Rules and offices change, so confirm each step with your employer or on the official pages.
Getting around
Cities have good public transport with monthly passes. Many factories and warehouses are outside town and run shift buses; ask your employer how people get to work for early and night shifts.
Everyday life
Discount supermarkets keep food costs reasonable. Learning basic Polish phrases helps at work and in shops, even where English is enough for the job. See jobs and conditions in Poland.
