Your first salary usually arrives several weeks after you start. A simple plan for that month removes most of the stress of moving.
Make a budget
- Housing: rent and deposit, unless the employer provides it
- Transport: a monthly pass or shift bus
- Food and household basics
- Phone and internet
- A reserve for anything unexpected
Ask your employer or manager about typical costs in that town, and plan with a margin.
Know your pay date
Check your contract for when and how salary is paid, and whether the first payment covers a full month. Ask in advance if advances are possible.
Sort out the essentials early
A bank account, a local phone number and any registrations your destination requires make everything else easier. Do them in the first days, not when you need them.
Stay in touch
Keep your manager's contacts and your employer's address saved offline. If something about housing or work is not as agreed, raise it early and in writing.
